The flyer pretty much says it all:

You can also find more information on the event here. I’m excited, and nervous, and all wound up in general. With a little luck, I’ll be able to give a report sometime next week. I also hope to share a little bit of news as well. We’ll see.
In the meantime, I’m excited, and nervous, and all wound up in general.

Geek Girl Charity will be at the Minnesota Educational Media Organization Fall conference on Friday, October 1st.
I’ll be signing in the vendor room (morning and afternoon) and also speaking on the afternoon authors panel. If anyone is planning on attending the conference, I’d love to chat with you. Stop by. I’m bringing Smarties and Nerds. Plus you can help me figure out what to say on the author panel. Those who know me in real life know that I’m all about the talking. (Ha.)

Calling all Naples, Florida geeks! Geek Girl Darcy will be doing a book signing at Books-A-Million in Naples, Florida (the one at 2063 Tamiami Trail) from 4 – 6 p.m. on Wednesday, February 3rd.
If you’re in the area, stop by! I hear there’s a possibility for Nerds and Smarties.
And if you’re stuck in the great frozen north (like I am), stop by this weekend. We’ll have a couple chances to win some books.

Things I learned at my book signing:
Kirstin Cronn-Mills, my never camera-shy daughter, me, West Jr. High principal
- Nerds are much more popular than Smarties. (Note level of candy in red bowl vs. blue bowl.)
- Giving away free candy is hard. (Don’t take candy from strangers still runs deep, apparently.)
- Even if you sit at a table with a large stack of the same book, a sign that says you’re signing the book, most people will not realize you’re the author.
- Some of these people will ask for directions to the restroom (straight back, take a left at information, then a right at the blue frog).
- Having someone shake their head and wrinkle their nose after you describe your book to them is more funny than awful.
- Spending fifteen minutes recommending every book you can think of for someone’s reluctant reader son is a lot of fun.
- Talking to a fellow debut author (Kirstin Cronn-Mills) is both fun and therapeutic.
- Signing all the stock is also lots of fun.
- Sitting by the door, during a Minnesota winter is not.
Most important, I learned that it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be to talk to people and that I’d do this again in a heartbeat.

Through the miracle of modern technology, there will be a Geek Girl book signing in two different states on the same day.
Erm, actually, it’s because there’s two of us.
So, circle December 5th on your calendar. Darcy will be in Chicago and I’ll be in a suburb of Minneapolis, and we’ll both be signing books.
Darcy has two signings in Chicago, one in the early afternoon and one in the evening.
I’ll be signing at the Hopkins West and North Jr. High book fair at Barnes and Noble from 11:00 – 1:30. If you can’t make it then, stop in from 4 – 6 p.m. I’ll be working the gift wrapping table, where I’ll be glad to sign your book and then wrap it for you.

The Debs are everywhere this holiday season!
As you can see, Darcy is working overtime on December 5th in Chicago. I guess I will be too, since I’ll be signing–and volunteering–at the fundraising book fair for my son’s Jr. High. You know what that means, don’t you (other than the fact I have ample opportunity to embarrass my offspring)?
Not only will I sign your copy of The Geek Girl’s Guide to Cheerleading, but I will wrap it for you. (Because I’m also scheduled to work the gift wrapping table, if you haven’t already guessed.)
Hope to see you there!

Take note! Geek Girl Darcy will be at Meet the Author night at the Allen County Public Library this Thursday (October 29th) at 7 p.m. She’ll be doing a reading, then talking about first kisses. She’ll also be signing books and will be on hand to answer your questions about writing and publishing.
Plus! Refreshments will be served. Nothing scary about that. So, if you’re in the Fort Wayne area, get your geek on and come on out.

It’s that time of year again. The smell of fresh pencil shavings, ink, paper and the enchanting fragrance of plastic binders fills the air. YES! It’s back to school shopping time! Be still my geek girl heart.
This year I’m getting in on the action. I’ll be at the Glenbrook Mall Barnes & Noble in Fort Wayne from 11-2, signing copies of The Geek Girl’s Guide to Cheerleading and passing on tips for geeking out your school supplies.
Plus! Register to win a D-I-Y ‘Boys In Books are Just Better’ folder and a collection of other enticing supplies.
Use the cash you save by customizing your own supplies to buy new books. We recommend Geek Girls, of course, but if you already have your copy – why not check out one (or all) of the super fresh books released by our fellow Debs this week?
Lipstick Apology by Jennifer Jabaley
Four little words written in lipstick mean Emily must say goodbye to everything she knows. Emily Carson has always been a good girl. So when she throws a party the night her parents leave for vacation, she’s sure she’ll get busted. What Emily doesn’t know is that her parents will never return. That their plane will go down. And the only thing left amidst the wreckage will be a tray table with the words: Emily please forgive me scrawled in lipstick – her mother’s last words.
Now it’s fall in New York City and Emily’s trying to pick up the pieces of her shattered life. Her public tragedy captures the attention of more than just the media – and soon two very different boys at her new school are pursuing her: the cute, popular Owen, and the quirky chemistry partner slash pastry-baker-by-night, Anthony. But even with such delicious distractions, Emily can’t let go of her mother’s mysterious apology. Does she have the courage to face the truth?
With help of a whole new kind of family – one that includes a make-up artist to the stars, a teen hand model, and a wacky hairdresser – Emily must choose between the boy who makes her forget it all, and the one who encourages her to remember, and ultimately, heal.
Donut Days by Lara Zielin
Emma has a lot going on. Her best friend’s not speaking to her, a boy she’s known all her life is suddenly smokin’ hot and in love with her, and oh yes, her evangelical minister parents may lose their church, especially if her mother keeps giving sermons saying Adam was a hermaphrodite. But this weekend Emma’s only focused on Crispy Dream, a hot new donut franchise opening in town, where Harley bikers and Frodo wannabes camp out waiting to be the first ones served.
Writing the best feature story on the camp for the local paper might just win Emma a scholarship to attend a non- Christian college. But soon enough Emma finds the donut camp isn’t quite the perfect escape from all her troubles at Living Word Redeemer.
