In case you don’t already know, Sam Hart pretty much = AWESOME. He’s the guy who wrote and sings the Mario Kart Love Song, which is only the most beautiful nerdy thing in the entire universe.

After you listen to that (you know, 100 times or so) go to his YouTube Channel to hear his newest song, 61 Things on My Cat, in which he expresses his love for his cat while he, um, puts 61 things on the sleeping kitty. Amazing in so many ways:

The Geek Girls feel super-privileged to have scored an interview with Mr. Hart. This is how it went:

Geek Girls: The Geek Girls hate stereotyping but we still wonder … looking back, if you were forced to put a label on yourself in high school — what would it have been?

Sam Hart:I’m not ashamed to say I was definitely a geek in high school. I was mainly an orchestra and video games geek, and dabbled in a few other geekish hobbies like comics and magic tricks.

Geek Girls: It was the Mario Kart Love Song that first made us fall in love with your music, but you have a dozen amazing songs on your You Tube channel. Which is your favorite — and why?

Sam Hart: I actually don’t have a favorite right now. Most of my songs are pretty personal and each reflect something meaningful that happened in my life, so it’s very hard to choose one that is the “best.” I’m really proud of my recent “61 Things on My Cat” video though. It can be a little intimidating for a guy to openly declare his love of cats, but the video has had a great reception.

Geek Girls: With more than two and a half million views of your most popular song — are people starting to recognize you, either on the street or when you are introduced by name?

Sam Hart: Not at all. The hat and yarn mustache in the video provide a real Clark Kent effect, and no one recognizes me without them. Even when I get introduced as “the Mario Kart Guy,” the first thing you’ll hear is “But where’s your mustache??”

Geek Girls: What do you do when you’re not writing/performing music or playing video games?

Sam Hart: I work as a video game designer, so when I’m not playing video games, I’m making them. I spend a lot of time watching musicians on YouTube too – there are a lot of great artists that really inspire me.

Geek Girls: What question do you wish someone would ask you?

Sam Hart: Ummmm I don’t know. beep boop beep boop boop.

The Geek Girls are all about spreading the love so, in honor of Sam’s visit to The Geek Girl’s Guide we’re giving away ten (yes, 10!) iTunes copies of the Mario Kart Love Song. To win your copy, leave a comment to this entry telling us your favorite video game. If the internets don’t explode by Friday, April 4th at midnight (eastern time), we’ll draw 10 random names and you too can experience sparks in your wheels and your heart!

Even though I can officially enter (or win, darn it), I’ll get things rolling by saying my favorite video game is Rock Band. Actually, it’s watching other people play Rock Band. I could do that all night.

  2. Rachel says:

I am a Sims addict, for PC. I can’t wait until Sims3 comes out in June! Or is it July…? Hrm… I should look into that, yes?

  3. Sara says:

While I DO love rock band (so much that I managed to cram a good 10-15 people into my tiny living room for the soul purpose of jamming all night tonight) Zelda Ocarina of Time will ALWAYS be my favorite game. It’s just one of those things I can never seem to get enough of.

    Rachel,

Was it you or one of your sisters who used to take down the fences at the Sims Zoo just to make things more interesting?

  5. darcy says:

    Sara,
Did your apartment survive Rock Band?

  6. Rachel says:

Haha, oh, Darcy, we all did that. it was quite a time watching the lions have at pretty much everything else, lol

  7. Aaron says:

I don’t think that Donkey Kong Country for SNES, and everything that came along with it (the soundtrack, the player’s guide, the merchandise, the first experiences on the Internet, the school projects incorporating it), can ever be topped for me.

  8. darcy says:
