Today we’re sending you elsewhere, specifically over to Brittany the Book Slayer’s blog. Brittany is a senior editor at American Cheerleader Magazine and an aspiring YA author.

Why, you may ask, are we chatting with a senior editor from American Cheerleader? All will be revealed soon. As in tomorrow. Pretty much tomorrow is the day.

But in the meantime, enjoy the interview at Brittany the Book Slayer. This interview contains some in-depth information on just how we go about writing as partners.

Sending you elsewhere today, over to John Scalzi’s site and Susan Beth Pfeffer’s “big idea” post.

I <3 Susan Beth Pfeffer. She was a mainstay of my YA reading when I was actually in that demographic. Two of my favorites were Marly the Kid and Starring Peter and Leigh. In fact, I read them so many times, I can still quote lines of dialogue and name significant plot points (and seriously, I wish she’d written a sequel where Marly does join the cheerleading squad like she–Marly–threatened to).

Susan Beth Pfeffer’s career is long, varied, and impressive. The story behind the three books Life As We Knew It, The Dead and the Gone, and This World We Live In is pretty incredible (and pretty funny).

Well, it seems Blogger is behaving badly and we’re having a few technical difficulties with the blog tour. So, in the meantime, we’ve a another musical interlude for you.

Hey, you knew we were going to post this at some point. Enjoy the 80s love.

Note: The outfits in this video are not unlike the one I wore back in the day.

Interesting (and short) documentary gem about the song. Learn why Toni insisted on using real cheerleaders and why she never had another hit song.

I couldn’t live blog the Geek Girl launch. When I booted up the computer, it didn’t detect a signal, never mind a weak one. But then I thought: Why not put on a time delay?

This turned out to be a good idea, since I’m not sure I could remember the launch today–or at least remember coherently.

We’d like to thank everyone who attended the book signing yesterday! You really helped make it a special day. Darcy and I were overwhelmed!

We’d like to thank Barb Nolan and the Danville Public Library for hosting our party. We would also like to thank BPW for providing the cookies today and we’d like to thank Darcy’s mom, Luanne Jarvis and her aunt, Millie Wilson for being the best publicity agents and promoters we could ask for.

And now, the “live” blogging on time delay:

1:48: cannot get wireless connection. Decide to put live blogging on  time delay.

1:49: My daughter is skipping around the room like a maniac.

1:57: just signed a book. It’s almost time and I’m freaking nervous.

2:00: Okay, it is two o’clock and we haven’t officially started. I may have a heart attack.

2:06: Clearly I’m behind the power curve. We’re signing first.

2:07: Just met Jen from TRT! So. Cool.

2:15: Our books are all gone. We sold them all. Dude!

2:19: We are now signing bookplates

2:23: My kids, running amok.

2:26:Darcy’s giving her cheerleading/expectations talk.

2:27: Did you know Steve Martin was a cheerleader?

2:28: So was Kirk Douglas

2:30: So was Ronald Reagan.

2:33:And Ruth Bader Ginsberg (Dude!)

2:34: Local historical cheerleaders now! So cool. We’re making them stand up (but not cheer).

2:36: Darcy’s mom!

2:48: We’re done!

2:49: Snacks!

3:00: Wait! Q&A, then the snacks.

3:18: Bathroom break for my daughter.

3:21:  Off to see Lincoln without a beard (this is my son)

3:27: Signing more bookplates for book orders.

3:30: My kids have vanished. Am hoping they are with Lincoln.

3:50: My kids return and it’s time to leave. I eat one cookie.

If you’re just here for the funny … skip this post.

Most of you who know me (Geek Girl Darcy) IRL or have heard me speak know that a couple of years ago my son was very sick. At just 20 years old, he was diagnosed with Stage II Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the tongue.

He’s fine now. I’m fine too (most days) but this week is the anniversary of his diagnosis … And … someone sent me a comment to an old lj post … And … a new friend from the 2009 Debs was struggling so we corresponded via lj … And … all that caused me to go back there, and compelled me to read my entries about those months when things were so uncertain.

I decided to compile all those cancer entries into one new journal. You can read it here if you want: theseaword.

And if you’ve been thinking about pre-ordering The Geek Girl’s Guide to Cheerleading, why not follow this link to the Oral Cancer Foundation.

Scroll to the bottom of the page and place your order through their Amazon partner button. The Oral Cancer Foundation is a community of cancer patients, survivors and caretakers who are committed to providing information, support, advocacy, research and HOPE for those afflicted with this disease that kills almost half of its victims.

Then go out and enjoy this beautiful day!
