This week, Aurora Reviews is posting our interview and review from last summer for The Long and the Short of It review site. So if you didn’t read it then, here’s your chance to catch us in reruns.
And while you’re there, check out The Long and the Short of It third anniversary contest. Three lucky people are winning a Nook. There’s a scavenger hunt, and each time you find a Nook (or rather, a picture of one) on a participating author’s page, you earn an entry in the contest. Yes! We’re participating. I won’t tell you where the Nook is on our site, but you might (cough, cough) consider reading the Geek Girl excerpt.
Just sayin’.
The contest runs until August 29th, so there’s plenty of time to get your entries in. Good luck!

FOGG (Friends of Geek Girls) Marianne and Judy have a “new” review site included in their already huge romance review site. It’s Aurora and to get the word out about the site, they’re hosting a very cool (and easy to enter) contest:
We’re having an Aurora Reviews Awareness Promotion – win an Aurora Reviews tote bag and a $25 Amazon/BN.com GC!!
Did you know that The Long and the Short of it now does reviews for Young Adult and Middle Grade fiction? Did you know we interview a new published author every week? Did you know we’re actively seeking short (1000 word) juvenile fiction short stories?
We don’t want you to miss another review or interview or author chat, so we’re holding a contest from now through July 31, 2010 to raise awareness of this new site. What’s the prize?
A huge Aurora Reviews canvas tote bag “stuffed” with your choice of either a $25 Amazon or BN.com gift certificate!
It’s easy to enter! Get on entry for each of the following:
- Follow our reviews blog – http://aurorareviews.blogspot.com/
- Follow our interviews/story blog – http://aurorareviewsarchives.blogspot.com/
- Join Aurora Reviews Yahoo group & post a message – http://tinyurl.com/36hupob
- Like us on Facebook - http://tinyurl.com/yj644or
- Tweet the contest info (and send us the link).
- Blog about the contest and send us the link.
How much easier can we make this for you?
Drawing will be held on August 1, 2010 and the winner notified via email (so make sure you have an email account associated with your entries!).

Yes, it’s true. Geek Girl has gone where no geek girl has gone before (that we know of):

That’s right! We’re in American Cheerleader Magazine, or more precisely, there’s a review of The Geek Girl’s Guide to Cheerleading in the May/June 2010 issue (which we haven’t seen yet, but copies are on the way).
And Darcy and I chatted some more with senior editor Brittany Geragotelis for an interview on their website here: Time Out With: Authors Charity Tahmaseb & Darcy Vance.
Plus, keep an eye on their contest page. Pretty soon, five autographed copies of Geek Girl will be up for grabs as well.
May is shaping up to be a cheer-tastic kind of month.

Over at the Young Adult Literature Review, there’s a nice review of Geek Girl’s Guide along with an interview where Darcy and I answer some questions we haven’t before. And if you’re looking for something to read, be sure to check out the blog in general-lots of good reviews and book talk going on there.
Oh, and here’s a joke I thought up in the shower this morning (yeah, brace yourself):
Why is the manuscript cold?
Because it’s a draft!
Oh, I slay me. Seriously, though, maybe y’all should just ignore me and proceed with the Easter egg hunt.

So today I discovered that VOYA (Voice of Youth Advocates) reviewed The Geek Girl’s Guide to Cheerleading. It’s a terrific review with a terrific pull quote:
This novel is contemporary, laugh-outloud funny, and positive.
I’m going to point you to the Barnes & Noble website for the rest, since 1) I’m not sure we have permission to reprint the review here on geek girl, and 2) it contains some mild-ish plot spoilers.

Yes, I know. We’re sending you elsewhere again. Today we’re very pleased to be visiting The Book Report. Want to know whether we’re Trekkies or Star Wars aficionados? What sort of writing quirks we might have? Here’s your chance.
Hop on over to the interview. You can also read the review of The Geek Girl’s Guide to Cheerleading The Book Report did a while back.

Yes, we’re sending you elsewhere. We’re over at Starving for Books today, with a very nice review (thanks, Lauren!) and an interview. While you’re there, check out her other reviews. She has a great YA book blog going.
And speaking of book blogs, if you’d like to add yours to our sidebar under “What we’re reading,” just email us (geekgirlx2 @ gmail.com — remove spaces), and we’ll link to you.

Hey! The Geek Girl’s Guide to Cheerleading was featured in Barbara Vey’s Publishers Weekly blog as part of her YA Saturday Morning Breakfast Club Book Blurbs.
The teen reviewer said that our depiction of high school was “scarily accurate.”
Ha! We strive to be.
