This week, Aurora Reviews is posting our interview and review from last summer for The Long and the Short of It review site. So if you didn’t read it then, here’s your chance to catch us in reruns.

And while you’re there, check out The Long and the Short of It third anniversary contest. Three lucky people are winning a Nook. There’s a scavenger hunt, and each time you find a Nook (or rather, a picture of one) on a participating author’s page, you earn an entry in the contest. Yes! We’re participating. I won’t tell you where the Nook is on our site, but you might (cough, cough) consider reading the Geek Girl excerpt.

Just sayin’.

The contest runs until August 29th, so there’s plenty of time to get your entries in. Good luck!

Today we welcome Sydney Salter to the blog as part of the Debs 2010 blog tour!

Swoon at Your Own Risk

You’d think Polly Martin would have all the answers when it comes to love-after all, her grandmother is the famous syndicated advice columnist Miss Swoon. But after a junior year full of dating disasters, Polly has sworn off boys. This summer, she’s going to focus on herself for once. So Polly is happy when she finds out Grandma is moving in-think of all the great advice she’ll get.

But Miss Swoon turns out to be a man-crazy sexagenarian! How can Polly stop herself from falling for Xander Cooper, the suddenly-hot skateboarder who keeps showing up while she’s working at Wild Waves water park, when Grandma is picking up guys at the bookstore and flirting with the dishwasher repairman?

No advice column can prepare Polly for what happens when she goes on a group camping trip with three too many ex-boyfriends and the tempting Xander. Polly is forced to face her feelings and figure out if she can be in love-and still be herself.

About Sydney

Sydney Salter has never had an ex-boyfriend or worked in a water park, but she did once babysit a bulldog. Sydney now lives in Utah with her first and only boyfriend (now her husband), two daughters, two cats, two dogs, and a pair of tortoises. She loves reading, writing, traveling, and really tall, really twisty water slides.

She’s also the author of My Big Nose And Other Natural Disasters and Jungle Crossing.

The interview!

1. The future has arrived and geeks finally rule the world. You’ve been called before a council to establish your geek cred. What will you tell them?

I prefer glasses to contacts, and when my hair is long enough, I can rock that geek girl glasses with ponytail look; I only wear comfortable shoes; I read two books a week–and always finish books I start; I look up words I don’t know in one of several dictionaries; I keep up on current events; I love documentary films; I adore research–whether it’s for a book, a family vacation, or a new skirt. I prefer museums to malls. When I do go shopping, I rely heavily on help from the sales clerk or buy whatever the mannequin is wearing. A few months ago, a mannequin dresser chased me down after I’d removed the plastic woman’s clothes (she happened to be wearing my size) to ask me why I liked the outfit. I had to admit that I have no real fashion sense and figured that she might.

I could go into the fact that I still get pimples decades after puberty, but I don’t want make anyone too depressed…

2. The Geek Girls are always armed with Nerds and Smarties at public appearances. What type of candy best represents your book?

Rocky Road Chocolate Fudge.

3. It’s mash up time at cheerleading tryouts! What two songs would your main character combine to create the perfect dance performance?

So What by Pink and Need You Now by Lady Antebellum. Let’s just say Polly is confused, and being a closet geek herself, doesn’t know much about putting together a good tryout routine.

~*~

This sounds like a great summer read! Thanks, Sydney, for stopping by!

Yes, it’s true. Geek Girl has gone where no geek girl has gone before (that we know of):

That’s right! We’re in American Cheerleader Magazine, or more precisely, there’s a review of The Geek Girl’s Guide to Cheerleading in the May/June 2010 issue (which we haven’t seen yet, but copies are on the way).

And Darcy and I chatted some more with senior editor Brittany Geragotelis for an interview on their website here: Time Out With: Authors Charity Tahmaseb & Darcy Vance.

Plus, keep an eye on their contest page. Pretty soon, five autographed copies of Geek Girl will be up for grabs as well.

May is shaping up to be a cheer-tastic kind of month.

Today we’re sending you elsewhere, specifically over to Brittany the Book Slayer’s blog. Brittany is a senior editor at American Cheerleader Magazine and an aspiring YA author.

Why, you may ask, are we chatting with a senior editor from American Cheerleader? All will be revealed soon. As in tomorrow. Pretty much tomorrow is the day.

But in the meantime, enjoy the interview at Brittany the Book Slayer. This interview contains some in-depth information on just how we go about writing as partners.

Look what I found today! A terrific interview with 2009 Deb Carrie Ryan. She talks about writing what you love and, of course, zombies.

Enjoy!

Over at the Young Adult Literature Review, there’s a nice review of Geek Girl’s Guide along with an interview where Darcy and I answer some questions we haven’t before. And if you’re looking for something to read, be sure to check out the blog in general-lots of good reviews and book talk going on there.

Oh, and here’s a joke I thought up in the shower this morning (yeah, brace yourself):

Why is the manuscript cold?
Because it’s a draft!

Oh, I slay me. Seriously, though, maybe y’all should just ignore me and proceed with the Easter egg hunt.

* * * Contest Time * * *

As promised, the Geek Girls are here to help you through not only Valentine’s Day, but February as well, which is somehow both the shortest and yet longest month of the year.

Here’s your chance to win a signed copy of Stupid Cupid by the fantabulous Rhonda Stapleton, but also this completely cute <3 T-Shirt from Think Geek. Simply leave a comment at the end of this entry (with email so we can contact you) and that’s it.

Now, without further ado, we bring you Rhonda and Stupid Cupid:

Felicity Walker believes in true love. That’s why she applies for a gig at the matchmaking company Cupid’s Hollow. But when Felicity gets the job, she learns that she isn’t just a matchmaker…she’s a cupid! (There’s more than one of them, you know.)

Armed with a hot pink, tricked-out PDA infused with the latest in cupid magic (love arrows shot through email), Felicity works to meet her quota of successful matches. But when she bends the rules of cupidity by matching her best friend Maya with three different boys at once, disaster strikes. Felicity needs to come up with a plan to set it all right, pronto, before she gets fired…and before Maya ends up with her heart split in three.

Interview with Rhonda:

1. The Geek Girls think labels and stereotypes are the stupidest things going but still, we can’t help being curious. If you had to put a label on your high school self, what would it be?

Totally a band nerd. haha. I loooooved band so much and identified myself with that group for most of high school.

2. While stalking, um, we mean researching you for this interview we learned that you are prone to obsessive crushes on things like actors, authors and musicians. What have you obsessed about lately?

OMG I am so prone to obsession. It’s sick. I shouldn’t admit it. I can’t help it though–wah! Don’t judge me! Anyway, I’m currently obsessed with the local indie station here in Cleveland (91.1). I never listened to it before a week or so ago, and now I love it. There’s all kinds of cool music I haven’t heard before, which is so fun!

3. Speaking of crushes, do you believe in love at first sight?

Oh, heck yeah. The zings that shoot through your body. The feeling like time slows down and you become hyper-aware of everything around you. The instant connection you feel when your eyes lock. I totally believe people are instantly drawn to each other. Some people know even just from one look if that person is right for them.

4. Step into our time machine. It’s 2011. Stupid Cupid, Flirting with Disaster and Pucker Up have all been released to great acclaim. You were the featured guest on Oprah’s very last-est show ever — where she touted your novels as the “greatest books of all time”. Stephenie Meyer recently did a prime time TV interview in which she revealed that Edward Cullen really did give Bella a copy of Stupid Cupid for Valentine’s Day. You are stinkin’ rich. How do you celebrate?

Dude, I love your version of reality. I will subscribe to that, thankyouverymuch. Ummmmm, I’m stinking rich? I go on a big fat odyssey. I visit Japan. Germany. Switzerland. Tibet. London. All those places I’ve always wanted to go. I absorb the food and drink and culture. I bring my family with me so we can all share in it!!

5. What is the one interview question you wish someone would ask?

How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll pop? (I want this one because I totally counted it out when I was a kid…I think I got up into the thousands! I’d be willing to try it again for an exact count. haha)

Thank you, Rhonda for visiting with us!

To enter the contest:

Leave a comment on this entry from now through February 13th, 2010 for your chance to win Stupid Cupid and the <3 Tee.

On Valentine’s Day morning, we’ll draw a winner from all the comments. And since we haven’t had a contest for a while, we’ll open this one up to all entries, including those outside the U.S.

Yes, I know. We’re sending you elsewhere again. Today we’re very pleased to be visiting The Book Report. Want to know whether we’re Trekkies or Star Wars aficionados? What sort of writing quirks we might have? Here’s your chance.

Hop on over to the interview. You can also read the review of The Geek Girl’s Guide to Cheerleading The Book Report did a while back.

Yes, we’re sending you elsewhere. We’re over at Starving for Books today, with a very nice review (thanks, Lauren!) and an interview. While you’re there, check out her other reviews. She has a great YA book blog going.

And speaking of book blogs, if you’d like to add yours to our sidebar under “What we’re reading,” just email us (geekgirlx2 @ gmail.com — remove spaces), and we’ll link to you.

Yes, we are the original slacker bloggers. We know this. But! Just for you, a sparkly new interview over at Julie Linker’s website. Why is it sparkly? It has tiaras. And zombies. (Not that zombies sparkle; I think that’s reserved for vampires, and only in certain series.)

Anyway. You should head on over. I know Julie would love it if you left a comment.
